QUROPE Quantum Information Processing and Communication in Europe

In relation to the event "Quantum Europe 2017 - Towards the Quantum Technology Flagship" that took place last friday (17.02.2017), the European Commission has published the slides presented during the event, which can be found here. Heiner Saßmannshausen (ETHZ) is the winner of the SCS-DSM (Swiss Chemical Society –  Dutch State Mines) best poster award of the Physical Chemistry Session for his poster “Photoassociation of cesium atoms upon Rydberg excitation in a dense ultracold gas” at the Fall Meeting of the Swiss Chemical Society in Lausanne, Switzerland, on September 4, 2015.

Prof. Dr. Frédéric Merkt (ETHZ) has been elected Fellow of the American Physical Society (APS) “for outstanding contributions to the research of chemical physics, spectroscopy, and quantum dynamics of atomic and molecular Rydberg states and the related ions” by the American Physical Society (APS), College Park (Maryland), USA, on September 30, 2016.

As follow up to the publication of the minutes of the Flagship Berlin workshop, we publish here below the minutes of the High Level Steering Committee meeting, which took place after the workshop.

Dynamical nuclear polarization holds the key for orders of magnitude enhancements of nuclear magnetic resonance signals which, in turn, would enable a wide range of novel applications in biomedical sciences. However, current implementations of DNP require cryogenic temperatures and long times for achieving high polarization. Here we propose and analyze in detail protocols that can achieve rapid hyperpolarization of 13C nuclear spins in randomly oriented ensembles of nanodiamonds at room temperature.
