The Department of Physics & Astronomy invites applications for a postdoctoral scholar appointment to conduct research in areas of theoretical condensed matter physics and quantum information science related to qubit decoherence mechanisms and coherence preservation techniques. Candidates are expected to have experience in two or more of the following fields: quantum dynamics of many-body systems (e.g., NMR, dynamical decoupling, or quantum optics); superconducting qubits; quantum error correction; numerical simulations of quantum systems. Salary will be commensurate with experience. The initial appointment will be for one year, with a possible second year extension depending on the progress and funds availability.

Applicants should submit their CV with publication list and outline of research interests, and arrange for three recommendation letters to be sent electronically (preferred) to leonid [dot] pryadko [at] ucr [dot] edu, or by mail to: Leonid Pryadko, Department of Physics & Astronomy, University of California, Riverside, CA 92521, USA. Review of applications will begin on December 1, 2010 and will continue until the position is filled. Additional information may be obtained from Associate Professor Leonid Pryadko.

Riverside campus of the University of California is located in the heart of Southern California, about an hour drive to Los Angeles, beaches, ski resorts, and desert parks.
