The Centre for Quantum Dynamics seeks a person with strong experimental physics skills to play a key research role in the areas of quantum optics and quantum information science. The successful applicant will work in the laboratory of Professor Geoff Pryde.

These are fixed term (2 years), full time positions based at the Nathan Campus.

The role:
The Centre for Quantum Dynamics is a leader in the areas of experimental and theoretical quantum information science, has a track record of presenting work in the leading international journals, and is a major participant in the Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence in Quantum Computation and Communication Technology (CQC2T). The successful candidate will perform experiments within the Optical Quantum Information Program (headed by Prof Geoff Pryde) of CQC2T, and other projects. These include experiments in implementing quantum optical techniques for amplification and repeater technologies and/or experiments in optical quantum computing and fundamental quantum optics. The appointee will contribute ideas within the research program, undertake experiments and data analysis, assist in supervising Research Higher Degree (e.g. PhD) students, write manuscripts for publication in scientific journals, and contribute to the overall coordination of the project.

The person:
The candidate must have a PhD or postdoctoral experience in a relevant area of experimental physics (e.g. quantum optics, quantum information science, high-level laser or optical science) and a demonstrated expert knowledge in experimental science. Excellent interpersonal and communications skills are also required, as well technical writing skills and the ability to transmit research results into published research outcomes. The ability to work independently and as part of a team is also required.

These positions will be available from July 2013, and applicants available to start close to that time may be preferred.

Salary Range:
Research Fellow, Grade 2: $80,965 - $96,148 per annum. Salary package including 17% employer superannuation contribution: $94,729 - $112,494 per annum.

Research Fellow, Grade 1: $63,153 - $74,288 per annum. Salary package including 17% employer superannuation contribution: $73,889- $86,917 per annum.
