Five new Postdoctoral Research Associate (PDRA) posts are available in the area of quantum technologies, based in the newly established EPSRC Quantum Communications Hub which is led by the University of York. The £24m five-year Hub, directed by Professor Tim Spiller, involves eight universities - Bristol, Cambridge, Heriot-Watt, Leeds, Royal Holloway, Sheffield, Strathclyde and York (lead). Private sector partners include BT, the National Physical Laboratory (NPL) and Toshiba Research Europe Ltd (TREL). The mission of the Hub is to develop a range of practical quantum communication technologies and to establish a UK Quantum Network.

York is seeking enthusiastic scientists or engineers for five new PDRA posts, to contribute across this technology development spectrum.

•       Post 1 (Theory post; based in the Department of Mathematics, York). Subject area: Device-independence and security proofs for quantum communications.

•       Post 2 (Theory post; based in the Department of Computer Science, York). Subject area: High-rate Quantum Key Distribution, quantum hacking and safe quantum storage.

•       Post 4 (Experiment and technology development post; seconded from York to Toshiba Research Europe Ltd, Cambridge). Subject area: Quantum communication network development at access and metro levels, and for the UK Quantum Network.

All five posts are full-time and the hours of work are 37 per week. The posts are available for a period of 24 months, with a view to an extension of a further 24 months.

Salary will be within the range £30,434 to £37,394 a year.
