Candidates must apply separately to each post for which they wish to be considered (I anticipate that most will therefore submit two applications).  All applications must be made online.

Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Molecular Quantum Nanoscience
Department of Materials, Parks Road, Oxford
Grade 7: Salary in the range £29,541 - £33,230 p.a.
A postdoctoral position is available immediately for up to 36 months, to undertake experimental research in quantum control in molecular devices. Applicants will have research experience in cryogenic device measurements, and possibly also nanoscale device fabrication and measurement or pulsed magnetic resonance of electron and nuclear spins. The post is part of a multidisciplinary programme Molecular Quantum Devices.

By the start date applicants must have completed a doctorate (or at least have submitted their thesis) in a relevant physical science. We shall be looking for an outstanding track record of research and publications, commensurate with the stage in career, and for evidence of a willingness and ability to engage with others in deeper theoretical and philosophical questions as well as complementary experimental approaches.

The post is funded by EPSRC. The research is in collaboration with Physics and Chemistry. It offers an excellent opportunity to develop practical technologies based on controlling quantum states, and specifically for using molecular spins in electronic devices. The key challenge is to transfer quantum information between molecular spin states and electron spins in double dot devices, and measure the results.

The closing date for applications is 12.00 midday on Friday 5 April 2013 with interviews currently planned for 24/25 April 2013.

Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Experimental Quantum Nanoscience (2 posts)
Department of Materials, Parks Road, Oxford
Grade 7: Salary in the range £29,541 - £33,230 p.a.
Two experimental postdoctoral research fellowships in quantum interference and control in molecular devices are available immediately for up to 27 months each. Applicants will have research experience in one or more of: molecular device fabrication and measurement, cryogenic device measurements, pulsed magnetic resonance of electron and nuclear spins. The posts are part of a multidisciplinary project led by Professor Andrew Briggs, entitled Quantum Nanoscience: Fundamental Physics, Emerging Structures, and Implications for Our Ultimate Reality, and a related programme on Bio-Inspired Quantum Technologies.

By the start date applicants must have completed a doctorate in a relevant physical science and have an outstanding track record of research and publications, commensurate with the stage in career. Willingness and ability to engage with others in deeper theoretical and philosophical questions as well as complementary experimental approaches are essential for this post.

The posts are funded by the John Templeton Foundation and the Oxford Martin School, in collaboration with Physics, Chemistry, Computer Science, and Philosophy. They offer an excellent opportunity to enhance the interfaces between these wide-ranging disciplines, and to make progress towards emerging quantum technologies pursuing the deeper fundamental questions.

The closing date for applications is 12.00 midday on 5 April 2013 with interviews currently planned for 24/25 April 2013.
