Postdoctoral positions in quantum many-body physics and quantum thermodynamics

We announce 2 post-doctoral positions in a joint project of Prof. G. Kurizki’s group at the Weizmann Institute (http://www.weizmann.ac.il/chemphys/gershon1/) and Dr N. Bar-Gill’s group at the Hebrew University in Israel ((http://bargill.phys.huji.ac.il)), focused on quantum many-body physics of atomic-like systems in the solid-state.
The successful applicants will be engaged in two main efforts:
• One effort will deal with novel schemes for coupling and control of NV centers and superconducting qubits, with the goal of creating deterministic quantum networks for quantum information processing and quantum simulation. This part of the work will include theoretical investigations and modelling of realistic experimental scenarios, using tools of quantum optics, circuit QED and quantum control theory.

• The other effort will consider fundamental quantum thermodynamic limits related to these systems, and their coupling to various realistic environments, including spin baths and 2-level fluctuators. This effort will rely on concepts of quantum thermodynamics and quantum information theory, and be based on techniques of open quantum systems and their dynamical control.

The applicants should have a strong background in quantum theory, with an advantage to experience in modelling or open quantum systems.

Interested applicants should send a CV, a letter of intent and 2 recommendation letters to terry [dot] debesh [at] weizmann [dot] ac [dot] il.
Starting date is flexible, preferably before Sept. 2014.
Successful candidates will receive post-doctoral fellowships for a 2-year period (Feinberg Graduate School http://www.weizmann.ac.il/pages/about-the-program).
