Postdoctoral positions in the following fields are available at the Department of Optics of the Palacky University in Olomouc, the Czech Republic:

  • Theoretical research in physics of quantum information processing with discrete and continuous variables (1 position, mentor: Jaromir Fiurasek, fiurasek [at] optics [dot] upol [dot] cz).
  • Theoretical research in quantum optics, manipulation of quantum noise of light and matter and quantum interfaces (1 position, mentor: Radim Filip, filip [at] optics [dot] upol [dot] cz).
  • Experimental research in quantum information processing based on quantum optics. Exploitation of entanglement, implementation and study of quantum gates, sources of non-classical states of light, and quantum interfaces. (1 position, mentor: Miloslav Dusek, dusek [at] optics [dot] upol [dot] cz)
  • Quantum tomography, wave-front sensitive detection methods, digital holography and optical signal processing, Raman spectroscopy instrumentation, Raman optical activity and optometry (2 positions, mentor: Zdenek Hradil, hradil [at] optics [dot] upol [dot] cz).

Requirements: Each applicant must have a Ph.D. degree in a related field, obtained after March 2008. Applicants who have obtained their Ph.D. degree at Palacký University are excluded in this call. The applicants should provide us with the following documents:

  • A brief structured curriculum vitae.
  • A list of publications.
  • A copy of Ph.D. diploma (applicants who are just finishing their Ph.D. may provide it later but before the end of October 2012).
  • Two letters of recommendation.
  • A motivation letter specifying the research interests.

Applicants should have previous experience in related fields of research. Documents should be sent by email to a corresponding mentor until September 30, 2012.

Conditions: Postdoctoral positions are offered for the period of 30 months from January 2013. A fixed salary for each postdoctoral position is about 2 000 Euro per month (pre-tax). A travel package covering 3 month stay abroad is a part of the position. Selection of the applicants will be based on (1) the quality of their research (50% weight) and (2) on their personal skills documented by their CVs, letters of recommendation, and – eventually – a personal interview (50%). Personal interviews of selected applicants will take place in October 2012. The applicants will be informed on the final decision until October 30, 2012. Applicants are encouraged to contact the mentors before submitting their final applications and consult details about the positions and research activities.

Department of optics has more than 40 years of tradition of outstanding research in quantum optics and related fields. The Department receives substantial funding from Government and various Grant Agencies, and it is a major optical research center in the Czech Republic.
