Applications are invited for one postdoctoral position in Theoretical Physics at the Department of Physics, University of Konstanz, Germany.

The successful candidate should have a degree in physics, a completed doctorate (PhD) and experience in at least one of the following research areas: theory of condensed matter, quantum information theory, quantum transport, (semiconductor) spintronics, electronic properties of graphene.

The study area encompasses the theoretical study of solid state systems for quantum information processing, especially single spin dynamics and spin coherence in semiconductor nanostructures (quantum dots, quantum wires, etc.) and carbon nano-structures (graphene and carbon nanotubes). Other areas of research are: (1) The coupling of electron spins (spin qubits) to the electromagnetic radiation field, especially in optical cavities, and the use of cavity QED for quantum information, (2) production, dynamics, and characterization of entanglement in solid state systems, (3) quantum information theory, especially quantum error correction.

The University of Konstanz is one of the nine "excellence" Universities in Germany. The Department of Physics at Konstanz has a thriving research community that provides excellent opportunities for career development. The group is associated with the Collaborative Research Center SFB 767 "Controlled Nanosystems" and the Center for Applied Photonics (CAP) at the University of Konstanz, and is part of the DFG-funded projects SPP 1285 "Semiconductor Spintronics" and the research group FG 912 "Spin coherence".

Applications and informal inquiries may be addressed to Prof. G. Burkard (Guido [dot] Burkard [at] uni-konstanz [dot] de). The application deadline is December 15, 2010. If the position is not filled by this time, additional applications will be considered.

Please send your application quoting reference number 2010/174.
