Open postdoctoral position

Stochastic and quantum simulation of optically trapped nanoparticles

Department of Optics, Palacky University, Olomouc, Czech Republic

Start of contract: at any time.

End of contract: December 31, 2018

We are seeking a postdoctoral researcher in theoretical physics and stochastic simulation, specifically, for a project focused on stochastic and quantum nonlinear dynamics of optically trapped nano-objects (particles, ions, NV centers, quantum emitters etc.).

The postdoc is expected to help us in reaching the research goals of our running Center of Excellence.  The Center is merging theoretical activities of the Department of Optics at the Palacky University in Olomouc and experimental activities at the Institute of Scientific Instruments of the Academy of Sciences in Brno (80km from Olomouc). The theoretical work of postdoc will be focused on simulation of interacting nanoparticles moving in time-varying nonlinear optical potential (first in underdamped stochastic regime and later, in quantum regime) and their applications in the emerging field of nonlinear stochastic engines and quantum engines. The results will be orientated to immediate experimental tests. Our work is done in a friendly and collaborative university environment, including theoretical and experimental physicists in quantum optics, physics of trapped ions and particles, quantum information and classical optics in both Olomouc and Brno. Research co-supervision of single PhD student will be included for the sake of strengthening the postdoc's pedagogical qualifications.

Position summary: Full-time temporary employment. The position is limited to a maximum of two years (1+1). Extension possible. Salary monthly 32.000-38.000 CZK before tax and social/health insurance.

Required:

• PhD in Physics, Applied Physics, Applied Mathematics, or equivalent

• fluency in English, oral and written

• interest and skills in working collaboratively as well as independently

Important experience:

• stochastic nonlinear Langevin equations

Helpful experiences (one is sufficient):

• quantum optics

• optically levitating nanoparticles

• stochastic and quantum thermodynamics

• quantum metrology

• physics of trapped ions

• quantum optomechanics
