ICFO - The Institute of Photonic Sciences, Barcelona, in collaboration with the Max Planck Institute for Quantum Optics in Garching (Germany), is currently offering a post-doctoral position to a well-qualified, highly motivated and dynamic young theoretician who wishes to enhance his/her scientific career in the research area of theoretical quantum optics, quantum many body physics, and quantum information theory in a friendly and stimulating environment.

The successful candidate will be part of strategic collaboration of the Max Planck Institute for Quantum Optics in Garching and ICFO, and, while being employed by MPI, will be based at ICFO. Strong collaboration with MPI, and in particular with the theory group of Prof. Ignacio Cirac are expected. At ICFO the successful candidate will be associated to the Quantum Optics Theory research group led by Prof. Maciej Lewenstein, and/or Quantum Information Theory group led by Prof. Antonio Acin.

The successful candidate will be involved in the research activities (current and emerging) within the area of quantum many body physic (such as physics of ultracold atomic, ionic and molecular systems) and/or quantum information theory.

For further information about the Quantum Optics Theory group, led by Prof. Maciej Lewenstein, please see http://www.icfo.eu/research/group_details.php?id=23; for futher details about the Quantum Information Theory group, led by Prof. Antonio Acin, please see http://www.icfo.eu/research/group_details.php?id=19.

REQUIREMENTS AND CONDITIONS

Candidates must hold an internationally-recognized PhD-equivalent degree (or evidence of its completion in the nearest future) theoretical physics (exceptions for mathematics or computer sciences may be considered).

The candidate should possess hands-on experience in theoretical physics, mathematical methods, numerical and simulation methods.

No restrictions of citizenship or gender apply to the ICFO post-doctoral positions.
Initially, the position is available for 1 year, but can be extended following the successful outcome of the initial phase. The starting date of the position can be as soon as June 02, 2014.
