Open positions on Dipolar Quantum Gas Experiments at IQOQI and Univ. Innsbruck (Austria)

We are starting a new experimental project on Dipolar Quantum Gases at the IQOQI and Univ. Innsbruck with several very interesting opportunities for highly motivated and enthusiastic PhD students and postdoc fellows.

Are you interested in joining us? Then please read the OPENING DETAILS.

Positions: The PhD positions are for up to 4 years, while Post-Doc appointments are for 1+1 years.  Women are particularly encouraged to apply. An overview of the salaries according to the Austrian Science Fund (FWF) can be found here.

Research group: The research group is led by Francesca Ferlaino and it is jointly located at the Institute of Quantum Optics and Quantum Information (IQOQI-Innsbruck) and at the University of Innsbruck (Austria). The group is part of a vibrant research environment with world-leading theoretical and experimental groups in quantum optics, ultracold gases, and quantum information.

More info: www.iqoqi.at, www.ultracold.at, www.uibk.ac.at/sp-physik

Research subject: We invite applications for PhD and postdoc positions to work on one of the following subjects:

(1)  Creation of a second-generation dipolar-quantum-gas machine for the exploration of strongly dipolar phenomena in ultracold atomic gases of lanthanides.

(2)  Quantum simulation with magnetic atoms

(3)  Multi-electron Rydberg excitation in erbium atoms

How to Apply?

·    PhD and Post-doc applications - containing CV, publications (if available), motivation letter - should be submitted electronically using the subject line “Application2015” to Francesca [dot] Ferlaino [at] uibk [dot] ac [dot] at

Post-deadline applications will be considered depending on availability.
