Sustainability of the QIPC field; position documents for National and EC level policy makers

We are pleased to advise that the Quantum Optics VIII conference will take place from 26 May 2013 to 1 June 2013 in Jachranka near Warsaw, Poland. The conference website is available at http://phoqus.fuw.edu.pl/quantumopticsviii/.

The conference will be the eighth one in the series that have been organized every four years since 1980s. One of its central aims is to bring together researchers from various sub-fields of quantum optics to offer a broad overview of current developments in this exciting domain. Quantum Information Processing (QIP) is a rapidly developing field of research spanning both physics and computer science. As the name implies, the field extends information processing (including computing and cryptography) to physical regimes where quantum effects become significant.

Quantum computation, quantum communication, and quantum cryptography are subfields of quantum information processing, an interdisciplinary field of information science and quantum mechanics. The TQC conference series focuses on theoretical aspects of these subfields. The objective of the conference is to bring together researchers so that they can interact with each other and share problems and recent discoveries. It will consist of invited talks, contributed talks, and a poster session.

We are pleased to inform you that following the successful editions of Benasque 1998, 2000, 2003, 2005, 2007, 2009, and 2011, we are organizing another workshop of the similar type in June 2013. This is to invite you to apply using the electronic form that you can find on the website specified below. We encourage you to apply as soon as possible and not later than April 15th, 2013. The number of participants at the Benasque Centre at any given time is limited to about 60.

We are pleased to announce the 13th ‘International Conference on Squeezed States and Uncertainty Relations’ (ICSSUR 2013) which will take place in Nuremberg, Germany, from June 24 to June 28 2013. It will be organized by the Max Planck Institute for the science of light and the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg.

The discussions at and around the next summit of the European Union heads of states and governments, which is scheduled for 22 and 23 November, will be decisive in determining the EU research budget for the next seven years. Several Member States are demanding severe cuts on the total EU budget and research will have to compete with other policy priorities.

The Nobel Prize in Physics 2012 was awarded jointly to Serge Haroche and David J. Wineland "for ground-breaking experimental methods that enable measuring and manipulation of individual quantum systems".
