We propose and investigate a hybrid optomechanical system consisting of a micro-mechanical oscillator coupled to the internal states of a distant ensemble of atoms. The interaction between the systems is mediated by a light field which allows the coupling of the two systems in a modular way over long distances. Coupling to internal degrees of freedom of atoms opens up the possibility to employ high-frequency mechanical resonators in the MHz to GHz regime, such as optomechanical crystal structures, and to benefit from the rich toolbox of quantum control over internal atomic states.
This workshop is generously founded by the cluster of excellence The Hamburg Centre for Ultrafast Imaging and by the collaborative project SFB/TRR21 Control of Quantum Correlations in Tailored Matter of the German Research Foundation, and by the Integrated Project Simulators and Interfaces with Quantum Systems of the European Union.
This workshop is intended to bring experts in the field of quantum physics of trapped ions, to interchange ideas and present the latest advances in the field. The atmosphere of the worshop will be relaxed and it leaves plenty of time for discussions and interaction between participants.
We are pleased to announce the Winter school on Non-Equilibrium Quantum Systems:
Theory and Experimental Implementation to be held at the Universitätszentrum Obergurgl, 7.-10. April 2015
We are happy to announce the 21. Young Atom Opticians (YAO) Conference to take place in Spring 2015 at ETH Zurich. The YAO conference is renowned to be a great meeting ground for young researchers in both experimental and theoretical atomic physics and an excellent platform to present their work. It is specifically aimed at graduate students in the starting phase of their PhD. The goal is to provide insight into the various research areas of modern quantum optics while the conference enables the exchange of participants in a relaxed and unforced atmosphere.

Together with the Scientific Committee, we would like to announce that the 2015 International Conference on Bose-Einstein Condensation- Frontiers in Quantum Gases will be held in Sant Feliu de Guixols, Spain, from September 5 to 11, 2015. The BEC conference is held every two years and acts as a major forum for a direct exchange between leading scientists working in the field of quantum gases. This year we will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the discovery of BEC in dilute gases and a great first list of invited speakers have already accepted to come.
