In the recent decade, it has been discovered that QKD systems are extremely vulnerable to side-channel attacks. In particular, by exploiting the internal working knowledge of practical detectors, it is possible to bring them to an operating region whereby only certain target detectors are sensitive to detections. Crucially, the adversary can use this loophole to learn everything about the secret key without introducing any error to the quantum channel.

QUTE-EUROPE contribution to FET public consultation

Summary:

QUTE-EUROPE submitted a position document titled "Quantum Technologies in H2020" to the recently launched FET public consultation.

As many of you probably know, the EC has launched an online consultation to identify game-changing directions for future research in FET related technological domains. The purpose of this consultation is to initiate thinking about future proactive initiatives to be included in the next FET workprogramme for 2016 and 2017.

FETPROACT-3-2014

Date:
2013-12-07 - 2014-04-01

Specific challenge: Devices that exploit quantum phenomena such as superposition and entanglement have the potential to enable radically new technologies. Several promising directions are now well known, for instance in quantum computation and simulation, quantum communication, quantum metrology and sensing. However, overcoming basic scientific challenges as well as bridging from the scientific results to concrete engineering technologies has proved difficult.

Information day for the first Call in Quantum simulation FET-Proactive initiative

Summary:

The EC is organizing the Information day for the first Call in Quantum simulation FET-Proactive initiative for the new Framework program, to be held on the 20th January 2014 in Brussels.

The European Commission is organizing an Information day for the first Call in Quantum simulation FET-Proactive initiative for the new Framework program.

The event will take place in Brussels in the DIAMANT Conference centre (location still to be confirmed) (http://www.diamant.be/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=46&Itemid=53&lang=en) on January 20, 2014.

Horizon 2020

Summary:

The European Commission has presented calls for projects under Horizon 2020 on Dec 10, 2013. A FET-Proactive (Research and Innovation Action) call with the topic "Quantum simulation" is open.

On Dec 10, 2013, the European Commission has for the first time presented calls for projects under Horizon 2020. Worth more than €15 billion over the first two years, the funding is intended to help boost Europe's knowledge-driven economy, and tackle issues that will make a difference in people's lives. More information is available at http://ec.europa.eu/programmes/horizon2020/ .
