University Assistant for the Field of Physics

The Rectorate invites applications for the position of University Assistant (UniversitätsassistentIn) ­ tenure track.

The following position, expected to be filled by March 1st, 2011 at the Faculty of Physics for the field
of Physics is being advertised.

Position Offering:

Successful candidates have an outstanding research record or show exceptional promise in any area of experimental or theoretical physics along the lines of the main research areas of the Faculty of Physics (Quantum Physics and Quantum Information, Particle Physics and Gravitational Physics, Physics of Complex Nanoscale Matter, Aerosol and Cluster Physics). Outstanding candidates in closely related fields may also be considered.

The advertised position is a scientific tenure track position: The University may offer, within 2 years, a "qualification agreement", provided that based on the previous scientific performance it can be expected that the required high qualification can be reached. This agreement is connected with the title of "Assistant Professor" [AssistenzprofessorIn].

If the agreed upon qualification is reached, a fixed-term employment will be made permanent, which is connected with the title "Associated Professor" [assoziierte/r ProfessorIn].

If the qualification will not be reached, the employment ends upon expiry of the contract term; in case of an indefinite employment at that time, the University may terminate such employment .

Working time: 100 %

Prerequisites for Application:

a.   PhD and a minimum of 2 years of post-doc experience
b.   Scientific publications relevant to the field
c.   Teaching experience or teaching concept

Applications are Assessed on the Basis of the Following Criteria:

Qualitative Criteria:

a. Scientific reputation and international recognition (publications, lectures, national and
international research cooperations, scientific activity abroad)
b. Teaching and advancement of young researchers (if applicable)

Acquisition of third-party funding

Scientific potential, expected contribution to enhancing the profile of the Faculty and the
University, respectively

Application Files:

1.      Application letter (max. 5 pages), to be structured as follows:
a. Achievements in research
b. Experience and activities in teaching (and advancement of young researchers), teaching plans
c. Achievements in knowledge transfer and knowledge management
d. Future plans in research and contribution to the scientific profile of the Faculty and the
University, respectively

2.      Enclosures:
a. CV and degree certificates/transcripts
b. List of publications, including impact factors and numbers of citations as well as a list of the ­ in
the opinion of the applicant ­ 5 most important publications
c. Scientific talks, also listing the 5 most important ones
d. "Esteem factors" (eg experience as publisher, functions in scientific societies or program
committees)
e. Acquired third-party fund projects (topic, runtime, origin, volume)
f. Teaching (and advancement of young researchers): courses held at universities, supervised theses,
teaching evaluations (if existent)
