Professor in Experimental Quantum Optics

DTU Physics invites applications for a position as Professor in Experimental Quantum Optics.

DTU Physics embraces research in five interconnected research areas: Biophysics and complex systems, Catalysis for sustainable energy, Experimental surface and nanomaterials physics, Quantum physics and information technology, and Theoretical atomic-scale physics.

With this position the Department wishes to strengthen the area of Quantum physics and information technology.

Responsibilities and tasks

The professor is expected to produce scientific results at high international level and disseminate these in peer-reviewed publications and at international conferences.

The professor is expected to take a lead position in the Department’s teaching obligations and perform research-based teaching at all levels (bachelor, master, and PhD levels) both within his or her own field of expertise as well as in general physics courses.

The professor is expected to develop and lead the research group related to the professorship. As part of this obligation, the professor must also take responsibility for education guidance and supervision of assistant professors and researchers in the group.

Qualifications

The applicant must be a well-established and experienced scientist with an international reputation and an outstanding track record in one or preferably several of the following areas:

  • Quantum information processing
  • Non-classical light generation using parametric devices and diamond quantum dots
  • Measurement induced optical quantum operations
  • Quantum state discrimination and characterization
  • Quantum plasmonics

The applicant must demonstrate extensive teaching experience, including supervision of student projects at bachelor, master, and PhD levels, as well as experience with training of postdocs.

Assessment

In the assessment of the candidates consideration will be given to

  • scientific production at international level, research potential and ability to lead and develop a research team
  • the ability to teach
  • the ability to promote and utilize research results
  • an all-round experience basis, including international experience
  • the ability to contribute to development of the department’s internal and external cooperation
  • track record in attracting funding to the research area
  • visions within the research area

Salary and terms of employment

The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed with the relevant union.

Applications, which should be submitted in English, must include a CV and a full publication list indicating the works viewed as scientific highlights. Teaching materials and research publications to be considered in the assessment must be enclosed as well. The application should include a plan for future research, indicating also the potential synergy with other activities in the Department, at DTU, and outside DTU and documentation of teaching experience.
