The Centre for Quantum Dynamics undertakes experimental and theoretical studies of the behaviour and properties of physical systems governed by quantum mechanics. The Centre is particularly strong in fostering collaboration between different research areas, both theoretical and experimental.

The main areas of research in the Centre are:

  • quantum computing and communication with photons and ions;
  • ultrafast dynamics of electrons in atoms and molecules;
  • manipulating atoms and biomolecules; and
  • fundamental aspects of quantum mechanics and quantum control.

The Centre pursues leading edge research and provides an exciting environment for the training of research higher degree (eg. PhD), honours and capable undergraduate students. Research in quantum physics at Griffith University is above or well-above world standard, according to the outcomes of the Australian Government’s recent assessments of Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA).

The Centre for Quantum Dynamics is well known in the international research community. It has close ties with other physical and biomedical scientists at Griffith University, and with many other Australian universities and with overseas institutions. Our staff and students are of many nationalities, and our graduates are now working across the world.

Fully funded scholarships (covering tuition fees and living allowances) are available for suitably qualified applicants, domestic or international. A minimum requirement for PhD is the equivalent of a first-class honours degree with a research component amounting to at least one semester of full-time study.
