PhD positions in the field of Quantum Information – Quantum Teleportation, Quantum Computation and Quantum Cryptography
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Institute for Quantum Optics and Quantum Information of the Austrian Academy of Sciences in Vienna (http://www.quantum.at/ and www.iqoqi.at) is inviting applications for PhD positions in experimental quantum optics and quantum information processing.

Our recently completed projects comprise:

•    Distributing entangled photons over 144km free space quantum channel at the Northern European Observatory using the ESA’s optical ground station (OGS) on the La Palma and the and the Teide Observatory on Tenerife
•    Testing foundations of quantum physics, e.g. Bell type experiments
•    Field test of entanglement based quantum cryptography over 300 km free space
•    High fidelity transmission of entangled photon pairs over a quantum channel which possesses heavy intensity losses

The successful candidates will be integrated into our quantum communication group, working in one of the most fascinating fields of scientific research.

Our current goals:
•    Long distance quantum state teleportation over 144km free space link on the Canary Islands
•    Setup of a long distance multi-photon quantum communication network
•    Development of a quantum cryptography system
•    Manipulation of photonic quantum states using integrated waveguides
•    Setup of a multi-photon based experiment using novel detectors

We are looking for a person with enthusiasm for the following areas:  quantum optics, quantum information processing or electrical engineering.
We welcome the application of motivated PhD candidates, who are searching to join our experimental research group.

Supervisor: Prof. Anton Zeilinger
