Applications are invited for a PhD position on the topic "Strong coupling effects in optomechanical systems" at the Vienna University of Technology in the Quantum Optics Theory group of Peter Rabl (http://ati.tuwien.ac.at/forschungsbereiche/nachwuchs_forschungsgruppe_th...). The candidate will perform research on nonlinear quantum effects in strongly coupled optomechanical systems and investigate potential applications for quantum information processing. Our group is located at the Atominstitut and associated with the Vienna Center for Quantum Science and Technology (http://vcq.quantum.at/). This provides a unique and very stimulating environment for quantum optic and cold atom research and for this project collaborations with the group of M. Aspelmeyer and other theory and experimental groups at the TU Wien and the University of Vienna are anticipated. The candidate has the possibility to be integrated into The Vienna Doctoral Program “Complex Quantum Systems” and is encouraged to apply for this program at www.coqus.at.

The candidate is expected to have an undergraduate degree in Physics and be able to perform independent and creative research. Experience in theoretical quantum optics or optomechanics is advantageous, but not essential. Applicants should send their CV (including two or more references) to peter [dot] rabl [at] ati [dot] ac [dot] at. The position is available from Jan 1st, 2013 and applications will be accepted until the position is filled.
