The theory group lead by Belén Paredes at the Institute of Theoretical Physics UAM/CSIC in Madrid announces a PhD Position at the frontier between condensed matter theory, quantum information and quantum optics https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/4069205/PhDPositionIFT.pdf.

The position is supported by the recently awarded project entitled Topological Matter: at the interface between condensed matter, quantum information and quantum optics, funded by the Plan Nacional de Investigación of the Spanish Government.

The aim of the thesis is the theoretical investigation of topological phases of matter, such as topological insulators and superconductors, with special emphasis in the theoretical understanding and the experimental realization of non-Abelian phases and non-Abelian anyons, both in quantum optical and solid-state architectures.

The group is part of an excellent research environment. The Institute of Theoretical Physics is one of the Severo Ochoa excellence centers in Spain, with world-leading groups in theoretical physics.

The position is a four year appointment. The application procedure and the terms of appointment and payment follow the general rules of the call Formación del Personal Investigador 2013 of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, which will be open for application soon.

Applicants do not need to have a Master Degree in Physics. The Master can be obtained during the time of the fellowship as part of the PhD program.

Applicants are requested to submit their applications electronically to belen [dot] parede [at] csic [dot] esApplications should contain a CV, a certified list of university courses and grades, and a letter describing their background and research interests.

The deadline for applications is 7th September 2013. Applicants should be able to start by March 2014.
