Photonic quantum memories

The Technical University of Dortmund has an opening for a PhD student. The successful candidate will be working on the implementation of photonic quantum memories on the basis of rare-earth ion crystals. The goal of this project consists in storing photons in crystals of rare-earth ions, converting them into excitations of nuclear spins and protecting them against environmental perturbations. The project is integrated in the EU-ITN CIPRIS (http://www.cipris.eu/). Additional information is available at http://e3.physik.tu-dortmund.de/~suter/research/REI_QIP.pdf. Candidates should have an excellent academic record and a strong background in laser spectroscopy, magnetic resonance and / or quantum information processing. Applications should include a CV, academic transcript, statement of previous research experience, and contact information for 3 referees. They should be submitted to Dieter Suter (Dieter [dot] Suter [at] tu-dortmund [dot] de).
