A PhD Position is available at the group of J.-Prof. Roman Orus at the Johannes-Gutenberg Universität Mainz (http://www.romanorus.com/), funded by the Graduate School of Excellence "Materials Science in Mainz" (http://www.mainz.uni-mainz.de/index.php). The research will concern the development of novel numerical simulation methods for strongly correlated systems based on entanglement and tensor networks. In particular, the student will focus on devising and programming algorithms to study finite-temperature and dissipation properties of 2d quantum lattice systems in the thermodynamic limit, together with potential applications in the study of decoherence effects in relevant quantum states of matter. Students with a good background on quantum mechanics, statistical mechanics, computer programming and linear algebra would be desirable. Outstanding candidates are encouraged to apply by following the formal application procedure from the MAINZ graduate school (see http://www.mainz.uni-mainz.de/How_to_apply.php for details), and by sending a complete curriculum vitae including the names of two referees to roman [dot] orus [at] uni-mainz [dot] com
