DESCRIPTION

ICFO - The Institute of Photonic Sciences (www.icfo.eu) and "la Caixa (http://obrasocial.lacaixa.es/) are teaming up for the International Fellowship Program "la Caixa" - Severo Ochoa.

The International Fellowship Program "la Caixa" - Severo Ochoa @ ICFO offers 4 PhD-fellowships to well-qualified graduate students who wish to obtain a doctoral degree at ICFO. These students are enrolled in the PhD Program @ ICFO. They have access to cutting-edge experimental infrastructures, specialized seminars, tailor-made training programs and active mentoring by ICFO Group Leaders. Entrepreneurship, commercialization techniques and seminars in the area of professional and personal development are also an integral part of the curricula.

- Green Technologies and Photovoltaics
- Graphene Physics and Nanomaterials
- Single-molecule Physics
- Ultracold Quantum Matter Physics
- Advanced Laser Technology

 

ELIGIBILITY
The International Fellowship Program "la Caixa" - Severo Ochoa @ ICFO welcomes applications from individuals with backgrounds in any scientific disciplines related to the research conducted at ICFO.

In order to be eligible, candidates must comply with the following requirements:
- Candidates must hold an internationally-recognized Master-equivalent degree (or evidence of its completion before October 2014). The degree must be in a field of science and engineering related to optics and photonics. Suitable backgrounds include optics, physics, mathematics, electronics, engineering, chemistry and biology.
- Prior to the deadline for application, candidates should not have been participated in a PhD research stay at ICFO with a cumulative duration exceeding 6 months.
- Candidates must provide the complete documentation requested for the application.

CONDITIONS
Starting in September/ October 2014, the positions are offered for periods of one year, renewable for a total of four years. Renewal is subject to satisfactory performance in the PhD studies and related research activities, evaluated annually by the Thesis Director and the ICFO PhD Committee.

 

SELECTION PROCEDURE

To apply, suitable candidates are requested to prepare and submit the following documents (in English):

- A presentation letter with declaration of research interests,
- A Curriculum Vitae, including complete contact details,
- A scanned copy of the academic transcripts for both undergraduate and postgraduate studies. Transcripts may be submitted in English, Spanish, or Catalan,
- A scanned copy of the relevant academic degrees (if available)
- Name and contact details of two referees who will be sending reference letters on behalf of the applicant (see below for further details).
- If available, scanned copy of standardized test results (GRE, TOEFL, etc.). Note that submission of test results is optional, but they can be particularly helpful for evaluating candidates with degrees obtained outside the European Higher Education Area.

Important note:
As part of the application material and before March 31, 2014, applicants should contact the two referees whom they have listed in their application form, asking them to submit reference letters to icfojobs [at] icfo [dot] eu (mailing label: candidate's name + "la Caixa").

The deadline for submission of the application material, including the reference letters, is March 31, 2014.
