Senior R&D Engineer

ID Quantique is a company based in Geneva, Switzerland, with three business units:

  1. Scientific instrumentation with a focus on photon counting tools
  2. High-security network encryption, which is the key strategic growth activity of the company,
  3. Random number generators.

ID Quantique was created in 2001 and has received one round of venture capital funding. It currently employs 20 persons in its Geneva office. The company is well funded and is profitable.

The company is looking for a senior R&D Engineer for its Scientific Instrumentation business unit. This person will be involved in internal and external development projects of new instrumentation products, primarily in the area of photon counting. He or she will report to the VP Engineering and will be involved in the development of the business unit strategy and product roadmap. He or she will act as the technical expert in the area of single-photon detection, both internally and externally.

Profile of the Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will be between 30 and 40 years of age. He or she will be able to communicate effortlessly in English. The candidate’s background and traits should include:

  • Advanced university degree in physics, photonics or microelectronics
  • Experience with photon counting and laboratory instrumentation
  • Leadership in inspiring a team
  • Good communication and relationship skills
  • Ability to write technical documents in English
  • Strong interest for technology
  • Knowledge of French or German would be an asset
  • Willingness to travel as required (10%)

Job Description

The principal duties and responsibilities include:

  • Role of expert in the area of photon counting and scientific instrumentation
  • Technology watch
  • Contribution to and management of internal product development projects
  • Management of collaborative R&D projects
  • Marketing support including
    • Assistance to sales organization
    • Participation to scientific conferences and industry events (2-3 per year)
    • Visit of Key Customers
    • Level 3 support
  • Support of the manufacturing team on a case by case basis
  • Availability watch for critical components
  • Contribution to the definition of the business unit strategy and product roadmap

Interactions

  • Will report to the VP Engineering and will participate to the company’s strategy committee
  • Will interact with:
    • Management
    • Sales organization
    • Customers
    • International resellers
    • Research and technology partners
