ICFO - The Institute of Photonic Sciences (www.icfo.eu), in collaboration with the Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya - BarcelonaTech (UPC), is offering PhD-fellowship positions in the research area of quantum information theory to a well-qualified, highly motivated and dynamic young scientist who wishes to enhance his/her scientific career in a friendly and stimulating environment, as well as to obtain a doctoral degree.

The successful candidate will be part of the "Quantum Information Theory" group, led by Prof. Antonio Acin. The main research activity in the group is in quantum information theory, with an emphasis on entanglement theory, quantum non-locality, quantum communication and quantum cryptography. The group also studies applications of quantum information concepts in other fields, such as foundations of quantum physics, quantum optics, quantum thermodynamics or many-body physics.

REQUIREMENTS AND CONDITIONS

Candidates must have obtained an internationally-recognized degree equivalent to 300 ECTS in their previous studies, out of which a minimum of 60 ECTS must have been obtained in Master-equivalent studies, compulsory for starting PhD-studies in Spain. The degree should be in physics (exceptions for mathematics or computer sciences may be considered).

Several positions are available. No restrictions of citizenship or gender apply to the ICFO PhD fellowships.

The position is offered for periods of one year, renewable for a total of four years. Renewal is subject to satisfactory performance in the PhD studies and related research activities, evaluated annually by the Thesis Director and the ICFO PhD Committee.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

Note that the formal application shall be submitted online via http://jobs.icfo.es/index.php?detail=166. Suitable candidates are requested to submit:
- A presentation letter with declaration of research interests,
- A Curriculum Vitae, including contact details,
- A scanned copy of your University academic transcripts in English, Catalan or Spanish,
- A scanned copy of the degree, if available at the time of application,
- The contact e-mail of two potential referees.
- If available, a scanned copy of standardized GRE test results. Note that submission of GRE test results is optional, but they can be particularly helpful for evaluating candidates with degrees obtained outside the European Higher Education Area.

Please note that candidates should be willing to be contacted by phone during the entire selection process.

Candidates may contact icfojobs [at] icfo [dot] eu for informal inquiries regarding the application, as well as address specific inquiries to Prof. Antonio Acin at antonio [dot] acin [at] icfo [dot] eu.

The call will remain open until suitable candidates are identified.
