Job Summary

The University of Leeds wishes to appoint a Professor of Single Phonon Physics who will undertake research in Quantum Nanomechanics, Quantum Nano-devices and/or quantum sensing and measurement at the single phonon level. The new professor will lead the capture and deployment of high levels of research funding and, in addition to producing his/her own world-leading research outputs, will build a group in Single Phonon Physics (linking the Condensed Matter and Quantum Information groups through to Engineering and Chemistry) through the recruitment to two further permanent academic posts funded within the new plan and establishing the University of Leeds at the international leading-edge of research in this area.

The University of Leeds has agreed an investment of up to £1.4 million in this appointment. It is also expected that the new Professor of Single Phonon Physics will lead a Strategic Partnership bid to the Engineering & Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) to lever additional funding (potentially up to an additional £1 million) to match that agreed from the University.
