Assistant/Associate Professor of Physics in Quantum Physics Theory

University of Warwick, U.K.

Warwick Physics seeks to make an academic appointment in Ab initio Materials Modelling and/or in Quantum Information Theory. We welcome applications from suitably qualified candidates in either of these areas.

See http://www.jobs.ac.uk/job/AIV202/assistant-professor-of-physics/
for the online application form.
For further details, see
http://www2.warwick.ac.uk/fac/sci/physics/posts/theory

You will have a strong research track record in one of the above areas and be ready to build your own research team with the support of colleagues at Warwick. The attention of more experienced applicants is drawn to our parallel advertisement for appointment at Associate Professor level, http://www.jobs.ac.uk/job/AIV199/associate-professor-of-physics/ .

You will have a theoretical background, such that your teaching can support students on our joint honours degree in Mathematics and Physics. You will have good communication skills and also be willing to contribute to the administration of the Department.

The Theoretical Physics Group at Warwick has a strong tradition in materials modelling, in particular in molecular dynamics and electronic structure calculations and exploitative of high performance computing. There is extensive collaboration with experimental groups working on both hard condensed matter and bio-/soft matter. Further strengthening of expertise in theory and software development for ab initio modelling of the quantum mechanics of interacting electrons in materials is motivated by the Department’s recent investments in equipment and personnel in experimental condensed matter physics. Experimental interest in the physics of quantum information and the Department's involvement in the recently announced Diamond Science and Technology (DST) Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) also prompts the search for a physicist interested in quantum information theory and who would fit in well with existing work in the quantum theory of devices and quantum statistics
