10 PhD positions in many-body quantum physics (ranging from theory to experiment) shall be filled in Munich in a joint programme by TUM, LMU, and MPQ starting from June 1st 2014 as described in the following call by the groups of I. Bloch, I. Cirac, J. Finley, S. Glaser, R. Gross, G. Rempe, U. Schollwoeck, H. Weinfurter, M. Wolf:

Within the Bavarian excellence network ENB,

EXPLORING QUANTUM MATTER (ExQM)
an International PhD Programme of Excellence,

provides openings of 10 PhD positions in summer 2014 in a Munich-based programme jointly held by 10 leading research groups at Technische Universität München (TUM), Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU), Max-Planck-Institut für Quantenoptik (MPQ), Walther-Meissner-Institut (WMI), Walter-Schottky Institut (WSI) and Virtuelle Hochschule at LMU.

The programme is international, interdisciplinary and will strongly exchange with partner programmes in Vienna and Innsbruck, ETH-Zürich, ICFO-Barcelona, Harvard, Stanford, the Caltech and others, e.g., by exploiting new media to set up an international e-library of excellence.

We address students in physics, mathematics, computer science, and chemistry with topics comprising quantum simulation, correlated many-body systems, ultra-cold gases, cavity QED, NMR, numerical and tensor methods etc.
Candidates should be open to international exchange and to actively contributing to an e-network of excellence.

Preferred application before April 30th 2014 for start in summer 2014 and Aug. 31st 2014 for start in fall.

Highly gifted students willing to excel in quantum physics with projects ranging from basic research to technological application are welcome to send their application with CV, grades of exams, 2 confidential letters of
recommendation as well as an expression of interest via register [at] exqm [dot] de .

For application, please follow the detailed instructions under http://www.exqm.de.
