Diamond’s nitrogen-vacancy (NV) centers show great promise in sensing applications and quantum computing due to their long electron spin coherence time and their ability to be located, manipulated and read out using light. In our group, we apply femtosecond laser microfabrication to write optical waveguides and NV centers in single-crystal synthetic diamond. We have recently found high quality laser-written NV centers and waveguides in optical and quantum grade diamond, making them promising for integrated magnetometer and quantum information systems, respectively. https://arxiv.org/abs/1605.01854
Our group is currently funded by the Italian SIR (Scientific Independence of young Researchers) Diamante project, Cariplo Lombardy Region FemtoDiamante project and the EU CONCERT Japan DiamondFab project of IFN-CNR in collaboration with Kyoto University and Koc University.
