We are happy to announce the opening of the call for applications for the new edition of the Doctoral Programme in the Physics and Mathematics of Information: Foundations of Future Information Technologies [2] (DP-PMI), starting in February 2018.
The DP-PMI aims at providing advanced curricular and research training in the recent developments and fundamental challenges in information sciences and technologies, namely in:
1. Classical and Quantum Information Theory;
2. Classical and Quantum Logic, Computation and Machine Learning;
3. Classical and Quantum Information Security and Communications;
4. Nanoenergetics and Quantum Thermodynamics;
5. Ultimate limits to precision measurements and navigation.
The DP-PMI is hosted by Instituto Superior [3]Tecnico [3] (IST), the School of Science and Engineering of the University of Lisbon, in Portugal, and seven associated research centres [4].
The programme is funded [5] mainly by a 2.2 MEuro grant from the Portuguese Science Foundation [6] (FCT). The DP-PMI started in January 2014 and so far has recruited 36 students (29 male + 7 female) from 12 different nationalities. Overall, the programme will recruit up to 40 students, with the last DP-PMI class expected to graduate in 2022.
The Doctoral Programme in the Physics and Mathematics of Information aims at recruiting top-level students at the global scale, and train them in a multidisciplinary and international setting. The applications for the DP-PMI are very competitive, with an average success rate of around 15%.
The applications [7] for the new edition of the DP-PMI are open until 30 October 2017.
