W1-Professorship for Quantum Physics (experiment or theory)

The Physics Department at the Faculty of Natural Sciences of Ulm University invites applications for a W1-Junior Professorship (commensurate with an “Assistant Professor”). This position is part of a special program to promote women in science funded by the German Science Foundation (DFG) within the collaborative research center SFB/TRR 21 “Control of quantum correlations in tailored matter” and Ulm University.

We seek candidates who will develop an outstanding research program in the field of quantum physics including but not limited to quantum optics and quantum information, mesoscopic physics, many-body physics, or applications in biology to complement existing strengths of our department especially in the field of fundamental quantum optics and quantum science and technology. There are extensive opportunities for collaborations with the physics, chemistry, and biology departments and the medical faculty as well as opportunities for participation in the newly founded joint Center for Integrated Quantum Science and Technology (IQST) of the universities of Ulm and Stuttgart as well as the Max Planck Institute for Solid State Physics.

The successful candidate (experimentalist or theoretician) will establish an internationally competitive research program, attract external research funding and publish their research in high impact journals.

The selection and employment procedure is based on the regulations laid down by university law regarding the appointment of professors. Employment conditions require a university degree, educational qualification which is normally proven by teaching experience, and qualification for academical working which is normally proven by an outstanding doctorate.

The appointment will initially be for three years on the basis of a temporary civil servant status or on an employee status. Following a positive evaluation, there will be a further three years’ extension.

Applicants must send their CV, a list of publications and a research program by May 6th, 2014 in electronic form (PDF format) to the Dean of the Faculty of Natural Sciences, Prof. Dr. Joachim Ankerhold (nawi [dot] dekanat [at] uni-ulm [dot] de). Please indicate the index number 26 in the subject line.

The University of Ulm is committed to increase the share of women in research and teaching positions and therefore explicitly encourages female candidates to apply.

Physically disabled applicants receive favorable consideration when equally qualified.
