Research engineer position in microbiology: bacteria detection in different water matrixes

The Optoelectronics group led by Prof. Dr. Valerio Pruneri at ICFO-The Institute of Photonic Sciences in Barcelona Spain is looking for a highly motivated Research engineer to work in a multi-disciplinary project involving water processing, photonics, microfluidics and signal processing, to be part of a team with the aim to validate biosensing devices in the field of waterborne microorganism detection.

The position implies standard microbiology bacteria culture, sample preparation procedures, sample characterization, SOP writing and result presentations.

The position will be funded by the project funded by the Agència Catalana de l’Aigua (ACA) signed between ICFO and ACA on July 13, 2020

Eligibility and Conditions

Candidates must hold an internationally-recognized biology or bio-engineering/ chemical engineering degree.

The candidate should also have:

§  Previous experience in working with bacteria.

§  Previous experience in biological sample preparation, cell biology reagents and assays. Previous experience with Flow cytometry systems or cell counting by culture methods is a plus. Previous experience on Filtration using hollow fibre filtration systems.

§  Knowledge of sampling from environmental locations

§  Experience in Solids liquid separation techniques using polymeric flocculants is a plus.

§  Previous experience in optics, optoelectronics, optical sensors, digital electronics and signal processing is a plus.

§  Programming experience in Python. C++, JavaScript would be a plus.

§  Medium-high level of written and oral communication skills in English.
Very good communication and teamwork skills, be proactive.

§  High sense of responsibility, very good organizational and documentation skills.
