Duties and Responsibilities

The project is a theoretical project that focuses on utilising the full potential of quantum mechanics for future electronic technology. On the one hand, the project will examine automata which is produced from multiple quantum units such as nanomagnets for transporting bits and performing classical (Boolean) reversible logic. On the other hand, the project will investigate an alternative architecture for quantum information processing such as how a network of interacting spins in a physically realistic scenario can serve as a quantum computational automata. The main purpose of this role is to: work with Professor Sougato Bose and to collaborate frequently with some relevant experimental and theoretical groups.
The position is available immediately and is for 4 years and 2 months in the first instance.

Key Requirements

The successful applicant will have a PhD in Physics and will be responsible for developing a research programme based around the design and use of spin based open quantum automata for reversible Boolean computation. They will contribute to the development and assistance of PhD students in spin network based automata for quantum information processing and be able to form successful collaborations with other investigators (theoretical and experimental) within UCL and collaborating laboratories.
