ICFO is offering a postdoctoral position to a well-qualified, highly motivated and dynamic young scientist who wishes to enhance his/her scientific career in a friendly and stimulating environment.

The successful candidate will be joining the Quantum Information Theory group led by Prof Dr. Antonio Acín. The group has experience in the design of quantum information protocols, with an emphasis on quantum cryptographic applications, the study of quantum correlations and the application of quantum information concepts to other fields, such as the study of many-body systems and quantum thermodynamics.

The candidate will work with Junior Leader Manuel Gessner at the intersection of quantum information and metrology, and its applications in optical and atomic systems.

Candidates must hold an internationally-recognized Ph.D.-equivalent degree (or evidence of its completion in the nearest future) preferably in physics.

The planned research focuses on quantum-enhanced precision measurement techniques, for example in the context of optical superresolution imaging or for the development of atomic sensors. Methods from quantum information theory to characterize quantum correlations in many-body systems and explore their potential for improving quantum sensors and other quantum technologies will be used. The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the research on one of these topics. The planned work is theoretical but collaborations with experiments are possible. More information on these research activities can be found at

We are looking for a highly motivated candidate with an excellent record. Applicants should have a strong background in either quantum information, quantum metrology, quantum optics, or atomic many-body systems.

ICFO is an equal opportunity employer. Candidates are selected exclusively on merit and potential on the basis of submitted application material. No restrictions related to disabilities, citizenship or gender apply to ICFO positions. ICFO abides by the principles of openness, efficiency, transparency, supportiveness, and international comparability as stated in the European Charter for Researchers and the European Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers.

The contract is offered for a period of one year.

The formal application should be submitted online via

Suitable candidates are requested to submit:

- Presentation letter with a declaration of interest,

- Curriculum Vitae, including contact details,
