PhD Position in Ultralow-field nuclear magnetic resonance of liquids in multi-phase materials using advanced optical/atomic magnetometers

Atomic Quantum Optics, the group of Morgan Mitchell within ICFO - The Institute of Photonic Sciences, invites applications for an Early-Stage Researcher to join the Innovative Training Network (ITN) entitled Zero and Ultralow-Field Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (ZULF NMR): www.zulf.eu

The Mitchell Group is developing new, ultralow-field approaches in Nuclear Magnetic Resonance spectroscopy (NMR) and imaging (MRI) based on ultra-sensitive atomic magnetometers. The work aims at quantification of flow fields and chemical dynamics in liquids. The sensitivity of atomic magnetometers enables new NMR modalities, promising new insights. We aim to apply these methods to understand the interplay of hydrodynamics, diffusion and chemical conversion in complex chemical processes.

Role of the ESR You will work on a project to develop NMR/MRI tools that increase our understanding of chemistry in multi-phase material systems beyond what current methods can provide.

PhD students benefit from state-of-the-art research facilities, a stimulating international and interdisciplinary environment, broad-scope scientific and technical training, extensive mentoring, and widespread opportunities for professional and personal development.
