Quie2t is called a Coordination Action, so it is natural to think that it is a service to the scientific community (QI branch). It is furthermore natural to think that it has an interest in what scientists (as scientists) are interested in. But this "furthermore" may actually be the core of a misunderstanding: Like Qurope it is only about what "scientists as spenders of European grant money" are interested in. This issue is important enough, and we all have to be thankful for the teams who do that.
But it may be helpful for this discussion and maybe even for the future image of Quie2t to have a look at the qurope website with the eyes of a scientist. To be blunt: it is totally boring. There is no content (apart from the jobs page and links to conferences) which would be of any interest to anybody in the community below the rank of a group leader. There is also no way to find out anything about our exciting scientific subject, for either an interested layman or an industrial guy who wants to get some background. This could be a bit frustrating because on the other hand you can click on WPs like "public outreach" and "forum" and "industry".
I quite agree that this activity is necessary. But does the site have to be so boring? Would it not help the noble cause of lobbying to give the impression of a lively community? To see that there are a lot of young scientists out there who are really enthusiastic about their subject? To not just talk about public outreach, but to have examples of understandable scientific content right there, perhaps only a click away?
The QUIE2T-sponsored international conference on Quantum Information Processing and Communication (QIPC 2011) was held at ETH Zurich from September 5 - 9, 2011.
