The goal of this project is to design future information processing technology that will take ICT beyond the current limits of energy requirements and performances. In order to realize this ambitious goal, the project will require and enable anticipation, insight and validation via simulation through a multiscale approach, from atomic scale including quantum features up to complex system level design. Such simulations will themselves make extensive use of today’s most performant supercomputers and distributed computing infrastructures.
Visionary, large-scale, science-driven European lCT-based research initiatives that aim to achieve a key scientific breakthrough. The scientific advance will deliver a strong and broad basis for future technological innovation and economic exploitation in a variety of areas, as well as novel benefits for society.
The proposed Quantum Technologies Flagship (QUTE-F) will allow Europe to play a key role in the new market where the quantum limits will define the performance of industrial applications.
| The FET scheme as part of the DG INFSO ICT programme is in the process of setting up the FET Flagship Initiatives, as laid down in the communication 'Moving the ICT frontiers’ and endorsed by the conclusions of the COMP Council of 3/4 December 2009. As one of the key actions, this communication envisages the launch of at least 2 of these initiatives by 2013. |
